In close cooperation, the partners Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, GEA Westfalia Separator Group GmbH and NETZSCH Feinmahltechnik GmbH processed rubber dandelion roots that had been harvested by Keygene early 2017. Specially designed and dedicated washing equipment, decanters and bead mills have been used. Compared to the former EU PEARLS project, purity as well as processing has been greatly improved. The process is easily up scalable and recovers both inulin and natural rubber in improved quality and purity. Apollo Tyres has produced bicycle tires with this rubber. Trials are continuing to further optimise the refinery process for both rubber and inulin recovery, quality and purity.
